Jackson Mayor Scott Conger Announces Reelection Campaign

Jackson, Tenn. – Oct. 26, 2026 – On Monday evening at the Carl Perkins Civic Center, City of Jackson Mayor Scott Conger announced his plans to run for reelection.

Conger, who took office in 2019, highlighted accomplishments in fiscal responsibility, public safety, infrastructure, economic development, neighborhoods and city services while emphasizing that there is more work ahead and outlining his priorities for the years to come.

“We’re not building Jackson for the next election. We’re building Jackson for the next generation,” said Conger. “This team cares deeply about our community, and I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished. I’m even more excited about what we can achieve together in the years ahead.”

During Conger’s time in office, the City of Jackson has reduced its debt by approximately $20 million, from $82 million to $62 million, while lowering the property tax rate from $1.96 to approximately $1.61 per $100 of assessed value.

Public safety has remained a central priority. Police staffing has reached an all-time high of 210 officers, while the city has equipped officers with body cameras and crime-fighting technology and strengthened fire and emergency response capabilities. Crime has declined by more than 30% over the last three years.

The city has made significant investments in infrastructure and quality of life, including committing $10.5 million to a street resurfacing program in 2026 and restoring in-house paving operations after more than 30 years. Jackson has opened a new Animal Care Center and its first dedicated Senior Activity Center while expanding investments in neighborhoods, parks and community programs.

Jackson has seen more than $1 billion in announced private investment, including major projects by Georgia-Pacific/Dixie, Toyota, Prysmian, Bobrick and others. Partnerships supporting job creation and workforce development have also continued to expand.

Conger’s administration has also worked to modernize city government through updated financial and administrative systems, online permitting, the 311 app and call center and a public Open Finance Portal designed to improve transparency, efficiency and accessibility.

Focused on the Future

Mayor Conger outlined his top five priorities for his next term to continue Jackson’s momentum:

Infrastructure: Continue resurfacing streets, reconstruct Airways Boulevard and improve sidewalks and transportation connections throughout the city.

Neighborhoods: Expand housing opportunities, strengthen neighborhood revitalization efforts and continue investments in parks and public spaces.

Public Safety: Strengthen police and fire services through recruitment, technology, equipment and community partnerships.

Economic Growth: Continue attracting quality jobs, supporting small businesses, developing Jackson’s workforce and creating more opportunities for young people to build their futures in Jackson.

Responsible Government: Protect taxpayers, manage debt responsibly, strengthen long-term financial planning and continue improving the way residents interact with city government.
